Edge
Edge = An approach to learning at The Kildonan School (@KildonanSchool) that combines self-directed studies, personal passion, and inquiry.
Students enrolled in the program explore a topic or problem using the larger content areas of Literature, Science, and History as lenses. They conduct this inquiry according to a yearlong, personalized process of discovery, research, and project-building.
Students enjoy academic freedom in the course, for they are able to direct their research into content and outlying sectors (e.g., math, vocational training, art/performance, and business) per their interests and needs. Nevertheless, they collaborate with faculty using supple structures that support their ongoing work. They maintain individualized process portfolios in order to document their learning, produce blog posts in which they explain their work to local and global audiences, collaborate with the Edge community, and sit-down to formal, individualized meetings with advisors on a weekly basis.
You can find out more information about the program by consulting our blog, Twitter account, and Pinterest board. Edge Faculty Advisors
The Edge faculty guide students as they examine their interests through the disciplines of Literature, History, and Science. While the content is derived from each of their self-selected areas of study, the Edge faculty are mindful of standard curricula at each grade level as well as the need for students to be conversant with that material.
